Time for New Maths Australia – Foundation is the first in the series of seven books that treats Mathematics in the context of everyday language. Lessons have been developed from the Australian Curriculum Mathematics Foundation to Year 10. Descriptions and Elaborations of the new curriculum have been essential in developing activities for the Time for New Maths Australia series. The book has been divided into strands that include Number and Place Value, Patterns and Algebra, using units of Measurement and Geometry along with Statistics and Probability.
The program in this book will help the parent or teacher present and the student develop in proficiencies of understanding, fluency, problem solving, and reasoning which are integral parts of the Mathematic content of the program. Pupils will also learn the language of mathematics so it becomes more meaningful when attempting lessons within each unit.
Parents or Teachers can use activities in this book as motivation or more importantly as a written record of understanding and performance after hands-on activities and classroom discussion. Some children may need help in reading/activities. This will also help develop understanding concepts.
Content descriptions and curriculum references can be found at the bottom of each page throughout the book. This along with the Lesson Overview Register will help parents or teachers cross reference the lesson content with curriculum objectives. While there is a suggested sequence of lessons, teachers can use the program as necessary to meet individual needs of the pupils, classroom priorities and school philosophy. Simple registration by the parent/teacher to monitor lessons is flexible. However, the Overview addresses the years objectives prescribed by the curriculum.
Each book in the series is fully self-contained with a suggested Lesson Register. Activities have been developed from curriculum Content Descriptions and Elaborations. There is a full set of answers and an Evaluation Profile. The Evaluation Profile provides an ideal measurement of a pupil's achievement in mathematics. As the pupil develops skill in mathematics throughout the year, the teacher can use the Evaluation Profile on page 144 to monitor and record progress. It can also be used as a Pupil Profile checklist as proficiencies in each area of mathematics are achieved by the pupil.
Time for New Maths Australia is also supported by a Time for New Mentals Australia book for each grade. The Units in Time for Mentals can be used to extend activities, used at home to reinforce lessons or as a stand-alone book that further exposes the pupil to proficiencies of the curriculum. Each Time for New Maths Australia book has a full set of answers for teachers and or parents to help the child develop an understanding and confidence in mathematics.Images shown accurately depict our books, some have been slightly altered for illustration purpose only
