Time for Naplan Literacy Activities for Year 4 & 5 is the third in a series designed for students to practice the types of activities presented in using and understanding literacy. There are six assessment tests in this book that will help students identify the conventions used in punctuation, rules of spelling and editing along with reading for understanding. Many activities treat aspects of language in the context of reading.
As your Year 4 & 5 student progresses through the assessment tasks he or she becomes familiar with the types of activities used to measure the understanding and application of the topic in the context of language.
The following skills are assessed.
- Spelling - in the context of sentences (correct spelling errors) Knowledge and application of spelling rules
- Punctuation - assessing knowledge of varying conventions with punctuation
- Reading - Identifying main idea of a story. Understanding meanings of words in context of the text. Ability to identify a story’s purpose. Classify the text type as part of reading conventions
- Writing - Following the scaffold outline of a story. Follow conventions, Punctuation, sentence structure, correct spelling, paragraphing and use editing skills to make corrections.
- Language Conventions - A wholistic approach
This book will help identify areas where knowledge and understanding of literacy is competent as well as identify areas in need of attention. Use each set of assessment tasks as a tool only. Assist your Year 4 & 5 child when and where necessary. Encourage praise, keeping the process a positive experience. Your support will play a big part in the process of learning while showing you where help is needed.
