Time for Spelling, Book 6 is the last in a series of seven books written to help reinforce many of the concepts, skills and understanding needed for today’s school curriculum.
The series is designed as a user friendly resource to improve a student’s reading skills, knowledge of grammar, accuracy in spelling and improved word knowledge through word building activities. The book contains 32 units of work and one unit can be attempted each week. Each unit addresses the subjects outlined above and covers topics in today’s environment which are relevant to the new Australian Curriculum for English.
As the child gains a better knowledge of language; reading, interpreting and responding to the written text develops and improves. Knowledge of grammar, punctuation and the skills to be a good speller are acquired by completing the set activities in each unit.
Message to Parents - With Time for Spelling, Book 6, most children should not need help with reading or the explanation of instructions. As a parent you are asked to support your child’s learning but resist the temptation to provide answers. By all means, read a word for your child if necessary and then support him/her to gain a better knowledge about the word and its meaning. This reassures the child and enables one to become a more independent learner. As the child works through the book your encouragement may be all that is needed.
Regular review of spelling activities and application of words in context helps your child develop skills which will assist in the learning process and improve confidence over time. A confident and skilled learner will enjoy school.
Praise your child at all times because you are the ideal support person in your child’s life. Use this book together to make the learning process more meaningful for both of you.
