Time for Reading Comprehension Foundation is one in a series designed to develop confidence in reading and competence in all areas of language. Units have been developed around the objectives of the new Australian Curriculum and K-10 Syllabus guidelines. Specific attention has been given to a wide variety of text types along with the development of understanding, interpreting and responding when reading.

The book contains 29 units each addressing a specific reading skill or text type. The topics introduced encourage talking, listening and writing about the stories presented. Activities are developed under the headings of understanding, intepreting and responding. By addressing activities under these headings, the specific reading skill is practised and reinforced.

The 29 units provided in this book give the teacher the freedom to cater to the individual child, a small group or a class as a whole. Specific aspects of reading can be identified, practised and developed within the context of each unit as

the year progresses. It is suggested that the child moves at his or her own pace and level of ability with this book. However, a teacher can select specific components within each unit to help the child master a particular aspect of reading. It is essential to keep a record of reading skills so that the teacher can provide practice activities that have been identified as a weakness by a child's past performance.
As the activities develop skills over time, the objectives set out in the curriculum will be addressed. More advanced reading skills will be introduced as the year progresses.

A full set of answers is provided at the back of this book for the busy teacher or parent who has a child that can work independently in reading. The child should be encouraged to read and given appropriate rewards and awards when he or she attains success in developing the skills associated with that of a good reader.
